The week that was…Natural learning

Unschooling

This week we’ve had a little girl who turned 4! I can’t believe how big these girls are getting, we’ll have a 6 year old by the end of next week too! Here’s what else we got up to…

Unschooling

Restocking the art shelves with some new bits and pieces inspired a lot of creating (and mess, lol).

The girls spent days making tons of these ‘superhero fairies’ and flying them from the top of the cubby house.

Sensory play this week was ‘experimenting’. I found this one day after putting my littlest to sleep. They have the science kit out, watercolours, and sequins. When I came out I added some bicarb and vinegar for them.

This week we picked the seeds out of the sunflowers. The girls wanted to do it using tweezers. Great fine motor practice!

A funny looking bug was discovered on the sunflowers and some research discovered it was a ‘mealybug’.

Our base 10 blocks arrived and were put to use straight away. Miss 6 can read number words 1-10 and is now working on reading much bigger numbers.

Other maths this week was all fun and games! Starting with some dominoes.

And then some Oware (lots of counting and strategising).

Miss 4 also got ‘Guess Who?‘ for her birthday and it didn’t take long for them both to get the hang of it. They had lots of fun whilst also learning and practicing using questions to collect information, problem solving, probability, and strategy.

Sewing! Miss 4 got this material and the needles for Christmas (found at CleverPatch).

Unschooling

Miss 4 sewed her thread randomly around the material while Miss 6 first drew a picture on her material to sew around.

UnschoolingMiss 4 had asked to go to Underwater World for her birthday but unfortunately the weather was terrible due to a cyclone up north and we couldn’t get up there. She was happy to stay home and play and sail paper boats though.

UnschoolingThe girls were curious about the cyclone and we had a look in our weather book to see if we could find some more information.

Unschooling

There was a lot of drawing with soft pastels this week, as Miss 4 got a new set for her birthday. They’re beautiful on black paper.

And on the weekend we made it to Underwater World which they all loved! They were full of smiles and excitement the whole time.
