When they were finished I wondered what we could do with them. Then I remembered some floristry supplies I had bought recently. I have a craft supply problem and often buy things that look interesting with no idea what we’ll use them for, LOL. I had some floral foam, florist wire, and florist’s tape. I set them out with the seed pods and the girls got to work making sculptures.

The wire was really tricky for them to wind around the seed pods. At one point I thought they were going to get frustrated and give up, but they persisted!

They eventually got the hang of it and worked out how to wrap it around so the pods wouldn’t fall out.

If they put a heavy piece on one side the foam would tip over so there was a lot of trial and error and problem solving trying to work out the best place for each piece.

Little sister likes to join in too. She enjoyed poking craft sticks into the foam again and again.

Finished sculpture by Miss 6. There was a whole story behind it. The curved wire is a tent and there are two people sleeping in their sleeping bags. The seed pods up the top are the sun, moon, stars, and planets in the sky.

Miss 4’s creation. It’s a ‘music maker’. When you shake it the seed pods bang together and make music.

And of course the finished product by my 21 month old.

I love them. So individual and different. Sometimes the best things aren’t even traditional ‘craft’ supplies.
