30 Days Towards Connected Parenting

30 Days Towards Connected Parenting

I’m so excited to be teaming up with my good friend Rachel from Racheous – Respectful Learning and Parenting to bring you this series. We are both so passionate about parenting and if you’re a regular reader here you know I like to talk about it a lot!

So what is this series about? As the title suggests, we’ll be talking about nurturing a deeper connection with our children. For me, connection is the key to parenting. If you have a great relationship with your kids, then parenting becomes easier. The more connected to you your children feel, the more influence you have. When that bond is there you don’t need to rely on punitive behavioural techniques to ‘control’ your kids. You can work as a team instead of battling to maintain control. Doesn’t that sound a lot more peaceful?

So, who is this series for? Anyone! Anyone who likes to read about and talk about parenting. Anyone who likes to share ideas and find inspiration from others. I hope that anyone who wants to build a better connection may find something helpful here. And even if you already feel on the right track I hope you’ll still stop by and share your thoughts so we can gain inspiration from you too!

What will we be talking about? We’ll be questioning society’s view of children and how we can move away from control and punitive discipline towards more peaceful cooperative parenting. We’ll be focusing on how our parenting can encourage a better connection with our children.

What is this not? This is not a program or step-by-step guide! No way! Firstly, we are not experts (except on our own children!), just passionate parents who love to share our journey. Secondly, there is no one size fits all approach to parenting, and there are no quick fixes. This is not about doing something to your children. It’s about questioning your beliefs about children and parenting, working on how you can let go of unhelpful assumptions and ‘rules’, and moving towards a more connection based approach to parenting. This is not about perfect parenting, it’s about trying our best and learning from each other. This is more like a conversation.

We’ve been working hard to prepare all the posts and there will be a new one every second day this month either here or over at Racheous – Respectful Learning and Parenting. I so hope you’ll join us, no matter where you are on your parenting journey!

“There is no single effort more radical in its potential for saving the world than a transformation of the way we raise our children.” – Marianne Williamson

  1. Oh yay! I have three kids, 7, 5, and 1, and we pretty-much-unschool and are pretty-much-connected, but I don’t think we’re doing as well on either count as you guys are! Can you do a Q&A as part of the series? Have people leave questions and what-would-you-do scenarios in the comments, and get your feedback?
