Brilliant Book Recommendations for Kids!

Kids book recommendations

I’m so excited to share with you some new books! We have been reading some really beautiful ones lately and I’m finally getting around to posting about them. I hope you enjoy! There are links to each of the books on Book Depository or Amazon if you want to read more about them. Now, my favourite first…

Wild Child

Book Depository | Amazon

Oh my heart. This book. You need it in your life. Most especially if you’re a homeschooler or unschooler! There are so many books where school is mentioned, but this one, this one is for the wild and free children!

And the pictures, such beauty!Kids book recommendations

The girls just love this book too. In fact, today I found them outside building a fort and when they saw me they hid. When I asked what they were doing they quoted a page back to me… “Why must we hide and why must we run? The grown-ups will catch us and ruin our fun!”

“They caught the wild children and put them in zoos,

They made them do sums and wear sensible shoes.

They put them to bed at the wrong time of day,

And made them sit still when they wanted to play.

They scrubbed them with soap and they made them eat peas.

They made them behave and say pardon and please.

They took all their wisdom and wildness away.

That’s why there are none in the forests today.”

I seriously had tears the first time I read that. “They took all their wisdom and wildness away”. Straight to the heart.

I don’t even know what else to say about this book. The pictures speak for themselves. I love it so so much.

A Poem for Every Night of the Year

Book Depository | Amazon

We’ve been getting into poetry lately, but were running out of things to read! This one, just like it says, has a poem for every day.Kids book recommendations

The poems are dated and there’s a little introduction above each telling the reader about the poem. Helpful because sometimes I honestly have no clue what they’re about. The only criticism I have is that it’s written for the northern hemisphere and there are some seasonal poems at the wrong time of year for us down here. But it’s easy enough to just skip to an appropriate one whenever that happens.Kids book recommendations

Hello World

Book Depository | Amazon

A lovely lift-the-flap book about languages!Kids book recommendations

Explore the whole world and learn how to say ‘hello’ in many many different ways.Kids book recommendations

It’s packed with lots more facts too, including how many people speak each language. Really interesting!Kids book recommendationsKids book recommendationsA Year Full of Stories

Book Depository | Amazon

This book is gorgeous! 52 stories from around the world, introducing you to many different cultures and celebrations.Kids book recommendations

The book is divided into months, and includes dates when a story relates to a specific festival. There’s also more info at the back about each date/celebration and what they mean.Kids book recommendations

I really like how the contents is set out. Easy to quickly see what’s coming up. Again, it’s designed for the Northern Hemisphere, but there’s only a few seasonal stories and this page makes it so easy to swap for the right season.Kids book recommendations

The pictures are really beautiful too!Kids book recommendationsKids book recommendations

The Moon Inside

Book Depository | Amazon

I got this one for a little someone who isn’t too fond of the dark.Kids book recommendationsIt’s a story of a young girl who also, at least at first, doesn’t like nighttime, but ends up discovering all the lovely things about it.

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls

Book Depository | Amazon

You’ve probably heard of this one! In a house full of girls I thought it was a good pick. Although, I’d really LOVE for boys to read about these awesome women too and I hope the title doesn’t put them off.Kids book recommendations

There’s many tales of awesome women who have made an impact on the world, and it’s really interested the girls.Kids book recommendationsKids book recommendations

Me… Jane

Book Depository | Amazon

I got this one with my little animal lover in mind, and it was a great choice!Kids book recommendations

It’s a little story about Jane Goodall as a child and how she became interested in animals. I thought there would be more about her life and what she achieved, but it actually just covered her childhood. At first, I thought that was a negative thing but it actually turned out to be great because it was relatable for my 8-year-old! She often wonders what she can do RIGHT NOW to help animals and feels frustrated that she’s not yet a ‘grown-up’ traveling the world and making documentaries. This book showed her that this great woman was once a child like her, learning about the world and the animals in it, and one day her dream DID come true. She turned to me after we read it together and said ‘Mum, she’s just like me!’Kids book recommendations

There actually is more about her life in the back, and also an encouraging message from Jane, which she also loved. Plus, there’s some more about Jane in Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls too!

………………………………………

That’s it for now! What have you been reading?

Thank you! I love when you do posts on books you all are enjoying. How do you decide which books you’ll purchase? And do you have any recommendations on books about nutrition for children?

Thanks

What a fantastic collection of books, thank you! My little girl is only 9 months but already loves books. I’m storing up some of these for when she’s older – there’s great power in books and I can’t wait to share it with her.

I also love your book recommendations! My eldest daughter adores Jane Goodall, we also have ‘Me Jane’, if you want a very similar style of book that follows on from ‘Me Jane’ and goes into what she did in her adult life ‘The Watcher’ by Jeanette Winter is an excellent follow on that we also love 🙂

Here’s a wonderful description/review of it:

Wow.. This is an amazing list of storybooks for kids. We do little story books for my toddler and baby, but I am always on the lookout to collect books with longer stories; so that I have them ready when my kids are ready!
Besides that, I also blog about Respectful Parenting, and I am so excited to have found your blog through an RIE Facebook group!
Lovely blog.
