Children just went back to school a couple of week Children just went back to school a couple of weeks ago here, so I'm seeing a lot of back-to-school articles. Can we just talk about 'After-School Restraint Collapse' for a minute? Yes, apparently this is a thing. I'm not denying the actual behaviour is a thing. Of course it is. But, instead of wondering what it might be about school that is pushing children to the end of their rope, damaging attachment, and causing extreme emotional outbursts, we're just going to give it a name and tell parents it's normal so they don't question this whole ridiculous system. All the kids are reacting this way guys, no need to worry! It's 'normal'!

The kids are always the problem, it's never school. It couldn't possibly be the fact that we're making them spend the majority of their day in an environment where they are constantly told what to do, punished when they can't or won't follow the rules, their rights and autonomy are taken away, they are separated from their family, and they don't feel safe to express their emotions. Children are telling us there is a problem. Maybe we could listen instead of just giving it a fancy name and pretending it's a totally normal and harmless phenomenon 🙄
