How is it that society has told mothers for so lon How is it that society has told mothers for so long now that they are the main carers of children, that their job is in the home, that domestic duties and raising children are their responsibility, that the needs of their family take priority over their own etc, but the minute they have an opinion on what their families and children need it's not taken seriously?

You don't want to leave your baby to cry themselves to sleep? Silly mother with your hormones!

You and your child are upset at the separation when starting school? Don't be so sensitive! This is normal.

Think you might want to homeschool? Better check with your husband and if you can't convince him, even with all you have researched and considered while he has read nothing, then I guess it's off to school for the kids!

Kids unhappy at school and you want to talk about some of the methods of behaviour management you don't agree with? Don't be ridiculous. What do you know? You're just a mother.

Excuse me? I don't think so. Am I really going to spend all my days with my children, devote more time and thought to their wellbeing than anyone else, just to have some random dismiss my opinions and judge my decisions? Forget that nonsense. I am the expert. You are the expert. It's time we all realised it. It's time we were treated like it.

Don't even get me started on children being the experts on themselves too. The world is not ready for that one.
