What you see: A painting activity.
What I see: A child building a relationship with the world around her. And living her best life while she's at it, lol.

Months ago, she planted these sunflowers.
Since then she's watched them grow, measured their growth and tracked it on a graph, photographed them, sketched them in her nature journal, looked at plant cells under the microscope, sung to them, observed the pollinators that visited them, harvested the seeds, pondered many many questions... and also painted them.

The painting is one small part of an ongoing relationship with something she became curious about.

I think we've been taught to see learning as a collection of separate lessons. A science lesson, an art lesson, a writing lesson... But learning doesn't really happen like that.

Learning is a relationship with the world. It's being curious, trying new things, asking questions, and delving deeper. It's discovering who you are and what lights you up. It's enjoying life! That's the kind of learning I'm trying to nurture.

If you're trying to create this kind of rich, connected learning at home, but you're not always sure how to recognise or build on your child's interests, my free 'From Curiosity to Creation' guide is a great place to start. Grab it at the link in my bio.
