Sometimes we look at a child who isn't starting pr

Sometimes we look at a child who isn't starting projects or diving deeply into anything and assume they're unmotivated. But sometimes they just don't know what they want to do yet.

I don't think self-directed learning means children should always have a long list of interests and projects they're desperate to pursue. Sometimes they have loads of ideas. Sometimes... nothing. And that's when I think we can help.

We can throw some possibilities into the mix, share an interesting idea, show them something someone else has made, suggest a weird challenge, look through books, go somewhere new.

They still get to decide what interests them, we're just giving them something to respond to.

Motivation comes after encountering an idea, not before.

That's what our new Project Jumpstart series is all about. Five weeks of fun ways to generate ideas, find new possibilities, and hopefully stumble across something that makes your child think, YES, I want to do that!
