Will Unschoolers Learn Their Times Tables?

Posted on September 3, 2017 by Sara @ Happiness is here

Unschooled children learn what they want to learn, when they want to learn it. This is confronting for a lot of people. They say to me “but there are certain things children need to know!” I’m sure there are. The … Continue reading →

Instagram post 2196811096986723820_1550337311 Over the years I've had a few messages about how my life looks perfect and why don't I show more hard stuff because it makes people feel bad. It always frustrates me, for many reasons.
1. I'm not a person who dwells on bad days or moments and it wouldn't be me to be constantly documenting them and sharing because that doesn't make me feel good. I've kept up a personal 365 project for many years in a row now because it encourages me to find at least one beautiful moment a day and to see all the good. And there is lots of it!
2. My life IS good! I try make it that way! I refuse to feel bad about sharing that. There are many many more good moments than hard ones and I'm grateful for that! When I look through my feed it seems a pretty accurate representation of our lives to me.
3. In the hard moments I'm not snapping pictures and composing instagram posts. I'm helping people.
4. No one has rights to my life, or my kids lives, and we don't have to share anything we don't want to. I don't share personal things about my children, or what they might be struggling with at times. Surely people know that, I don't even share their faces!
5. When I scroll through my instagram feed I know that people are only sharing snippets of their lives and often the parts they hope to share to inspire and encourage others. I assume others know that too. That doesn't mean what they share isn't real (well for most people). These are real moments that really happened, this is literally my life, it's just that you can only see tiny moments that are dotted throughout a very normal life just like other people's.
6. I'm not cool with having to censor myself and not share things because it might be too... happy? Positive? You are asking me to be less!
7. I do what I want 😋
