All I hear is how awful teenagers are. But all I s All I hear is how awful teenagers are.
But all I see is this magic girl.

I don't think the teen years are awful. I think they're where you start to see the 'results' of whatever came before them. What I'm learning is that if you prioritised freedom, trust, connection, and respect you are likely to see a confident, motivated, connected, inspired, kind, respectful, playful, thoughtful, and wonderful human. There is no need for her to fight against us, she has always been free. We've always been on the same team, working things out together.

I think a lot of people thought I'd regret my 'out-there' decisions of unschooling and respectful parenting, but I couldn't be more glad right now.

If everyone who disagreed with unschooling met an actually unschooled teen (no, not your neighbour's best friend's sister's cousin who said they unschooled but really just neglected their children), I think they'd change their mind pretty quick. There is zero doubt in my mind that this is the healthiest way for her to grow and learn about herself and the world at her own pace, in a healthy supportive environment.
