If you're unschooling and you go through a period
If you're unschooling and you go through a period where it feels like nobody is doing very much... welcome lol. We're currently in the middle of that because of a virus.

In general though, not every week in our house is full of impressive projects, deep interests, and children enthusiastically researching things from sunrise to sunset.

Sometimes things are more quiet. At those times, I try not to immediately assume something is wrong, or unschooling isn't 'working'.

Instead, I just try to pay attention to what IS happening. Are they happy? Resting? Seeing friends? Reading? Gaming? Making things? Talking? Thinking? Recovering after a busy period? Enjoying having nowhere to be?

Or do they actually seem flat, bored, disconnected, and like they need something new? Those are two different scenarios.

If everyone seems content, I don't think we need to manufacture busyness just so our homeschool looks more reassuring. But if life is actually feeling a little boring, then I'll do something about it. Change up our routine, go somewhere new, invite people over, pull out forgotten materials, find an event, suggest an idea, or start something myself.

There are lots of options, but a quieter season could also be totally normal and necessary too!
