Beautiful Christmas Books for Children
I LOVE Christmas, and you know I love books. So what could be better than Christmas books? We have a whole box we get out every December and they really help us get into the Christmas spirit. I love the idea of a book advent too. Wrap up 25 books and open one each day in the lead up to Christmas!
We have a couple of new ones to read this year and I can’t wait. I thought I’d share them, along with some of our favourites, and I’m getting in early in case you want to order any in time for December!
So here they are. Ten books to get you in the Christmas spirit…
The Nights Before Christmas
This is a new one and I’m really excited to read it! 24 Classic Christmas stories. We’re going to read one each day starting December 1st.
An impressive list of authors, huh? 
I think this will be really lovely to read each night as we anticipate Christmas. 
In the back there is a section with more information about each story and author which is really interesting!
I love this book and think it’s the perfect addition to our collection.
Walk This World at Christmas Time
Just as the title suggests, this book takes us on a journey around the world at Christmas time.
There are lots of flaps to lift to find out interesting things! We get to see how Christmas is celebrated in many different cultures, the differences and the similarities.
Stick Man
Now this one is a favourite all year round here. Julia Donaldson is one of the kid’s all-time favourite authors.
I love all her books too. I can’t go past a rhyming book! They’re always highly entertaining. If you haven’t got this one, you really should. Follow stick man as he gets terribly lost and eventually rescued by Santa and delivered safely back to the family tree.
The Christmas Eve Tree
This is a heart warmer! A story of a homeless boy who rescues an unwanted tree and they end up having a magical Christmas eve together.
A beautifully illustrated book that shows the importance and potential that exists in even the smallest and seemingly insignificant things.
The Story Orchestra – The Nutcracker
The Christmas spirit is already entering our home because my 3-year-old just cannot stop playing with this one.
This is the classic story from the ballet ‘The Nutcracker’, AND it plays Tchaikovsky’s music! We are actually going to see the ballet in December so it’s especially perfect!
Each page plays a different piece, relating to the scene shown.
In the back there is more information on each piece of music. Such a beautiful book.
Christmas Farm
Another feel-good Christmas story. This one is about a lady and a young boy who work together over many years to grow Christmas trees.
A gorgeous celebration of friendship between young and old, determination, generosity, and the Christmas spirit.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas
If you don’t already have the Grinch, it’s time you did! A lesson in what Christmas is really about.
“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,
stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so?
It came without ribbons. It came without tags.
It came without packages, boxes or bags.

This simple little golden book was one of our first Christmas books and is still a favourite.

I adore the illustrations in this one.

I also love the idea of he book advent , but we currently own only one Christmas book.
It’s the night before Christmas, but it’s one of the ones that you can record yourself reading and it also plays music when you turn the page. My two boys love it and read it all year long.
I can’t wait for Christmas! The gang has been decorating the house for Halloween for the lat few weeks, but I”m jonesing for Christmas already! Thanks for the early book reviews! Two year old No. 3 has come into the family custom of picking up sticks and carrying them around our local forest. Stick Man looks perfect!
Your book recommendations are always second to none, thank you. Jane Ray’s books are beautiful and I love her “12 Days of Christmas”.
Can I recommend you get ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ by Nancy Tillman? I think you’d love it, it’s beautiful. She has so many beautiful books that are really special for both parents and the children 🙂 we got her new books ‘You’re all kinds of Wonderful’ and ‘You, me and the Wishing Tree’ for my daughters Christmas and Birthday (she rocked up early, five days after Christmas)
I am so looking forward to getting some of these. Books are so full of magic… ♥
